Jummana was referred to GROW via the jobcentre in April and from day 1 she has been an active GRoW participant, engaging in every support session we’ve held. Jummana has now started work as a Retail Assistant for Primark at Tottenham Court Road.
Jummana said ‘As a single mum of two children, who are now 18 and 10, my prime goal has been to get back to work after 13 years out of the workforce. Before being referred to GRoW I was applying for many jobs but not getting very positive feedback. Once I was put in touch with my GRoW adviser Khatera I felt so supported to move forward. Khatera offered me continuous one to support and helped to keep me positive through the journey.
GRoW offered me so many opportunities to help me get to a position where I could confidently apply for jobs and get noticed. I took part in their weekly Coffee Mornings and the CV and Interview Workshops with Sonia which were invaluable. Sonia helped me to improve my CV and showed me where it had been letting me down in the past. I also took part in the GRoW Your Confidence Workshop and the Preparing to work in Schools programme as I would love to pursue this as a career in the future.
I found the job at Primark through Indeed and was so pleased when I was offered the job. Although I worked at McDonalds in 2008 and did some temporary work for Sports Direct I haven’t had much retail experience. It gave me such a confidence boost to get the job. I attended my induction date last week and started the job this week. It is part time hours which works well for me.
Since joining GRoW I feel much more confident and happier. I feel I have achieved what I wanted in getting a job and it made me think about how ways of improving my skills and knowledge too. Through GRoW I signed up to do a First Aid course which I am still doing now, it is quite challenging but I am glad to be doing something else to improve my prospects.’
