Roselyn looks to a Career in Childminding

Roselyn

Roselyn was referred to GRoW by her Universal Credit Coach in May after being out of work since 2015.  Roselyn has now completed a number of training courses and has plans to  become a Childminder.

Roselyn said “My last job was as a Customer Services Adviser for Wilkinsons but in 2015 I left to go to University to study Travel and Tourism. It was a 3 year course which I finished in 2019 with a BSc Hons but during that time I became a single parent to my son which meant I had to put my dreams of working for an airline on hold.  I decided I would like to get a job working with children and so I enrolled at Uxbridge College and undertook an 18 week Caring for Children Level 1, Employability and English training course which I have just completed.

During this time the GRoW Team have really helped me a lot.  I have taken part in the GRoW Your Own Business Programme with Mercedes Grant where I have learned so much about how to set up my own business.  It has helped me to think about my future and what I want to do.  I have decided I would like to set up as a childminder as it will enable me to spend more time with my son whilst I work.  The next step I need to take now is to complete more related courses and so I am enrolling for a Safeguarding course in September.

GRoW has offered me the opportunity to really feel part of something.  When I was doing the GYOB course with Mercedes she really knew how to motivate me.  At first I was quite scared because I have been away from the workplace for so long but I feel I was really blessed to be able to do the training. The GRoW Team offer so many opportunities and make you feel part of a community. Last week I went along to the GRoW picnic which was really good fun, we had activities and races for the kids I took part in the running race and got a medal!

It was great to be able to come together as a community and it makes me feel alive.  Having GRoW helps me feel I have people around me to support me.  Even the Coffee Mornings are a great opportunity to just engage with other mums.  I learn something from everyone I have contact with and it helps to motivate me.  Meeting Liz and the GRoW Team has really helped me move on in my life and take big steps.”
